Why I Love Anonymous Readers?

It is no hidden fact that how much i love anonymous readers on my blog. Ever since i started this ranting space, i have been really lucky to have a pretty decent readership and each of them have been special in their own ways. But it's the anonymous readers which always catches my fascination, makes me stop and think a little bit more. Feed burner statistics on my blog shows that
currently I have around 38 readers who follows me privately.There are a few who have blog-rolled me or follow through e-mail subscription also, but what interests me most here is this high number of anonymous readers. I find it really surprising that they keep on reading me always like this and still provide their valuable feedback.I find such kind of readers extremely honest, blunt and heart wrenching in their responses about my writings. I have never asked any of them why they so want to be anonymous over such a long time, after all its their space how they want to approach me on a public platform. In fact, once upon a time, i was so impressed by an anonymous reader that i decided to award her here .

But you must be wondering, why the hell i am telling you all these stories? Well it goes like this, during this weekend, an anonymous reader was there on my blog (Let's not disclose her location as it was evident to me from the IP tracker). She was a first time visitor in this space, and was continuously present on the blog over the weekend. I ignored it initially, till i got a mail in my inbox this Sunday evening, which she sent using the contact form on the blog (obviously quoted from a fake e-mail address). She wrote that she has spent her entire weekend reading each and every post on this blog. She was deeply touched and could relate to a lot of things i have written in various posts with her life and relationships she have been involved. Along with the email, she wrote a beautiful poem, which i am publishing here with her due permission. Have a look......

On one dull cloudy Saturday morning,
I woke up with a mood of mourning.
Chores,Breakfast,Coffee on my table,
Turned on the Tv, blank screen, no cable.
The concept of love, it gets so old
The same old story, my feet felt cold
Bugged of the gloomy weather outside,
I turned my laptop on by the side
My Horoscope said, expect a surprise,
I smiled in assurance, its nothing but lies
Google, my best friend, helps me understand
I type out my concern, and "enter" is the magic wand
I typed, was love never new?
My first result said, love is always new.
In disgrace, I hit on the link,
And all the rest is in my heart with permanent ink.
Now I wake up every morning, ecstatic,
Because I look forward to reading the Hopeless Romantic!

PS: I still don't really know how to react to all this, i am happy, shocked and surprised at the same time. It makes me feel proud and humble at the same time. It makes me feel touched and a bit emotional. I am not sure how to handle all this love. Oh ya, Hopeless Romantic finding it tough to handle love, Can you beat that? :D

Oh Hopeless Romantic,

Thought all the time that I was the only one who's a hopeless romantic who's trying to hop from one's site to another.

And you must be lucky you have a secret follower who could only whisper you sweet thoughts that may also inspire of being a blogger.

Nice, Hopeless Romantic.

I'm a follower of yours ever since I can't remember when.

Keep up! Ciao.....

that must have been a really flattering moment for you :)
i agree anonymous comments are the most unbiased and frank ones but only as long as you dont begin to relate them with someone u dont want to relate.
thats when a sense of paranoia sets in..
have been there..been impressed and flattered with the praise as well as the constructive critism and even looked forward to those comments like there was no tomorrow..until a point where i could relate the phantom to some entity i knew and then i had to drive him out!
i still am not sure if it was the paranoia in me or the gut instinct which prompted me to do that..i even now, miss the comments though
but i guess i would still prefer ppl to leave behind atleast a name (even though they dont own a blog) so as to just keep the guessing ghosts in me at bay.
but then again, thats just me!

u enjoy your moment! :)

take care

@Nikita

lol, note to you : Doesn't matter, just be yourself and all good things would fall in place. I believe every blogger has something unique to share. Even if he/she is sharing the same issues like someone else, it will have a new interpretation for sure. So, the mantra is write what you feel like. I used to write about one topic for a very long time till recently i went for sort of image break over. But i have never heard anyone complain. Reason for it could be attributed that people were able to relate to it.

All the best,
Amit

@Amity me

I am Hopeless romantic not just on blog, but else where in real life too. Thanks for following me, but i never realised you are doing the same sine you never used to comment. And without comments, its a tad difficult to know who is actively reading you. And as i said in the post, i have quite a few of the secret followers, it was just that she came out to be the most vocal one!

Keep visiting,
Amit

@Priyanka

Strong words, i guess i touched a raw nerve somewhere :)

Till A few months back, i was also of the same opinion that there should not be any anonymous commentators on the blog, but then an anonymous blogger told me that she loves reading my posts, but because of her "professional reasons" she cannot reveal her identity. In other words, her professionaal ethics don't allow her to reveal her identity openely on any public platform. Hence, i didn't changed the settings. And there is no question of paranoia here, i have a very healthy mix of both kind of readers, i should be the last person who would be complaining anything against anonymous readers. But, as far as my experience has gone, all such kind of readers have been good with me, i am alright, and things have been in the right spirit.

Though let me add that through yahoo chat pingbox on my blog, i have to talk to certain morons who ping me with anonymous names and try to get fucking cute, but still i have kept it because even if its 1 out of 10 who are doing non sense, other 9 should not be held responsible for it. I can always delete comments, but with people pinging on yahoo chat box, you can't do much, you just have to reply to them!

Thanks for sharing your opinion!

tat was a heartfelt gesture... i mean i can actually feel what u must have been feeling after reading tat poem...and not just a poem a wonderful poem...
i bet u dont need a reason now to love her!!

i always believed that at every point in life.. when we are doing something no matter how small.. a lil appreciation... concern... brings out or pushes us thru to make it the best!
and this is one such gesture!

good one!

Love
Megha

Hopeless Romantic said...

@Megha

Surely she has given me enough reason to love her, but no she is a sweetheart just because of her gesture!

I absolutely agree how little appreciation can help in bringing out the best in you, i hope it helps me write better in future.

Love,
Amit

i dunno y but i hate anonymous readers.nobody has written me a poem yet :P

Manju said...

Oh Amit, a stupid question : how do you check how many subscribers you've got? i have no idea how to do that!

I am Alive said...

Good post..
But why have you added "Life in a Metro" as one of the labels ?

Free Falling said...

The cutest poem :)
Love is always new....
a hopeful phrase..agreed :)

Hopeless Romantic said...

@Anwesa

hey,this is your first comment here, welcome to the blog!

You haven't given the reason why you hate anonymous readers, so its not right for me to comment anything on that. Till it don't get any offensive (which luckily it has never got so far, touch wood), i am cool with anonymous readers!

But, this is not the first time i have been touched with anonymous readers, they always surprised me and make me feel special.

Keep coming back,
Amit

Hopeless Romantic said...

@Manju

You need to set up your feed burner account, link it with your blog URL, and you can see the number of readers. Generally it takes around 24 hours to show the correct number of readers. And it may behave erratically in the beginning in showing the correct number, but then it settles down (Don't know why it happens, but my guess it just takes time to fetch readers from all sources like Google reader, email subscription, followers etc).

All the best,
Amit

Hopeless Romantic said...

@ I am Alive

well, i am glad someone actually noticed by labels ;) I take pain in selecting them and putting in a post.

But, anyways coming back to your question. See, it has got to do with the e-mail she sent, where she has also discussed a few things about her relationships, which i can't disclose here for obvious reasons. Now most of those so called relationship issues are centric in big cities, specifically in metro cities. Hence, the label existed. The post needs to carry a shade of the label and may be not in its entirety.

Thanks,
Amit

Hopeless Romantic said...

@ Free Falling

lol, and paradoxically i still call myself a Hopeless romantic to go with a hopeful phrase like Love is always new. Ironical, isn't it?

Cheers,
Amit
